怀中抱月

　　这棵树，一条树根裹着一块巨石，形成了全国罕见的奇景——怀中抱月。这棵千年古树，伸出一条好像是巨手的树根，把巨石拦腰抱住。树，傲然挺立；石，巍然不动，仿佛自盘古开天辟地之时，二者就天生一体、不可分离。还记得情人谷岩壁上那个月牙形的凹槽吗？这棵树所抱的正是大禹跟情人幽会时从嫦娥处借得的月亮。原来，女嬉见大禹每日与一山姑幽会于情人谷，还借月光照明。女嬉怕儿子沉溺于女色，忘其父亲遗愿，便暗中指使树神在大禹拿着月亮去情人谷的途中，伸出一条树根将大禹绊了一跤，顺势劫下了月亮，抱在怀中。大禹丝毫没有办法，知道是母亲所为，心生愧疚，便立志于学业，再也不去情人谷了。而这月亮，就这样日复一日、年复一年地被抱在这里。

embracing the moon

　　A tree, clasping a big stone with a root, forms the peculiar scene of the country---Embracing the moon. The age old tree, extending one of its root which looks like a huge hand, clasps the big stone in the middle. The tree stands tall and upright and the stone lies in still. It seems that the two have naturally being a unit since the creation of the world. Still remember the crescent-moon shaped dent on the steep? What the tree embraced is that moon which was borrowed from Chang’e by Dayu when he secretly met his lover. Here is the story: when found that her son dated with a mountain girl everyday in the lover’s vale and borrowed moon for lighting, Nvxi(Dayu’s mother) was worried that he might forget his father’s will. So she secretly asked the god of tree to prevent Dayu by extending a root to trip over him in his way to the vale and clasp the moon. Dayu knew that it was her mother’s trick and could do nothing. and he began to feel shamed. Thereafter, he focuses his attention in study and never went to the lover’s vale again. And the moon, from then on, was embraced there forever.
